Dipendra Lama’s Nepali film Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2 opened across Nepal on October 17, 2026, on the occasion of Phulpati during Dashain. The sequel to the popular 2019 film continues the franchise’s mix of comedy and political satire while adding a story about love, marriage and complicated family relationships.

Deepak Raj Giri, Keki Adhikari and Sanisha Bhattarai lead the cast. The ensemble also includes Deepa Shree Niraula, Prakash Ghimire, Rama Thapaliya, Karma Shakya, Rihan Giri, Maxam Gaudel, Rabindra Jha and Nirmal Sharma. Rohit Adhikari produces the film, presented by Aama Saraswati Movies, Rohit Adhikari Films and IME.

A Dashain release in a crowded market

The film opened in multiplexes and single-screen cinemas during one of Nepal’s busiest holiday periods. Its release came alongside strong Dashain competition from Aa Bata Aama 2 and 12 Gaun 2, meaning screens and showtimes were divided across several major releases. Even so, a nationwide Phulpati opening gives the sequel an important position in the festival market.

From politics to family life

The story follows a young woman who enters the life of a comrade who has devoted much of his life to politics. After leaving political life behind and embracing marriage, he must deal with a past that continues to affect his present. The film brings together relationship tension, social pressure and domestic humour while retaining the series’ interest in public and political life.

The story was developed by Dipendra Lama and Deepak Raj Giri, with Raj Giri credited for the screenplay and dialogue. Lama directs the film, presenting its social themes through a mainstream comic and family-oriented style.

Songs build audience interest

The title song uses a baby-shower celebration to create a colourful family setting. It features Deepak Raj Giri, Keki Adhikari, Sanisha Bhattarai and a large supporting cast, with vocals by Karan Pariyar, Abhi Sunar, Bishal Niraula and Rashmi Bishwakarma. Abhi Sunar wrote and composed the song.

The second song, “Mayama Expiry Date Hudaina,” was released on October 7. Written by Rajendra Thapa, composed by Deepak Sharma and sung by Sabin Subedi and Sahima Shrestha, the song presents two women involved with the same man. Its theme of deception and betrayal hints at the relationship conflicts in the film.

Overseas release plans

After its Nepal release, the film was scheduled to open in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain from October 16, in Europe from October 17 and in Canada from October 23. Additional release dates were also planned for markets including the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan.

The film’s listed runtime is two hours and 30 minutes. Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2 brings together a familiar comedy team, a Dashain release window and a story that moves between political history, romance and family life.
