Prashant Tamang

Prashant Tamang was a prominent singer and actor of Nepali origin who rose to international fame as the winner of Indian Idol Season 3 in 2007. Before his breakthrough in the entertainment industry, he served as a constable in the Kolkata Police, following in the footsteps of his late father, and honed his vocal skills as a member of the police orchestra. His historic win on Indian Idol—fueled by overwhelming support from the Gorkha community and the Nepali diaspora worldwide—launched a diverse career that included hit music albums like Dhanyavad and a successful transition into acting with his debut in the 2010 Nepali film Gorkha Paltan. In recent years, he expanded his repertoire into digital media, notably portraying the character "Daniel" in the second season of the acclaimed Indian web series Paatal Lok. Tragically, Prashant Tamang passed away at the age of 43 on January 11, 2026, in New Delhi, leaving behind a legacy as a cultural icon who bridged communities through music and film.
